Job Opportunities At RLabs Tanzania At Dar Es Salaam, Mbeya, Iringa and Tanga

RLabs’ Grow Leadership Academy helps young people create innovative businesses. RLabs Tanzania has trained over 900 young people and 5,000 community members in entrepreneurship and innovation.

In Iringa, we are developing a youth cafe, Maker Space, and Zlto reward scheme with support from the Tanzania Commission for Science and Technology.

We’ve expanded Grow Leadership Academy to Dar es Salaam, where we’ll be developing a training site and social enterprise on a stunning ocean view plot donated to RLabs by social entrepreneurs.

RLabs UK is supporting RLabs Tanzania to raise the funds and systems to grow.

Job title: Head Of Digital Innovation

Job purpose: To lead Digital training and special projects within RLabs

Salary: 4.5m gross per month, depending on experience

Location: Mbeya, with travel to Iringa, Dar es Salaam and Tanga


  • Work with RLabs’ participants and training facilitators to define key digital skills for young entrepreneurs and develop interactive sessions for RLabs’ digital curriculum

  • Train RLabs’ trainers to deliver digital curriculum, initially co-facilitating then later supervising the trainers

  • Lead the training sessions and mentoring adolescent girls with the IT based solutions in Mbeya

  • Facilitate hackathon events in Mbeya (including on Rapid Pro / U-Report), using different techniques to help adolescent girls brainstorm and develop their best ASRH solutions to tackle health and nutrition challenges.

  • Coaching and supporting the adolescents on how to develop the best emerging ASHR and nutrition innovations ideas.

  • Identify and list the potential innovative ideas about ASRH and nutrition solutions from the adolescent girls in Mbeya.

  • Supporting and empowering the adolescent girls to develop software applications from the emerging ASRH and nutrition innovations from the GRREAT participants. 

  • Prepare functional computer training packages to ensure that RLabs Centre in Mbeya is running throughout the year by providing basic IT skills to different groups of people including university students and non-students.

OKY (predicted start date – January 2022)

  • Coordinate the testing, feedback and adaptation of UNICEF’s period tracking app for the Tanzanian context. This will involve engaging with adolescent girls to develop appropriate text content for the app and liaise with technical partners on graphic design and coding.

YOMA (October 2021)

  • Coordinate the training of young people to collect agricultural data for digital rewards in partnership with UNICEF / YOMA and CGYIAR


  • A growth mindset and passion for working with young people with low levels of education and digital literacy

  • Excellent training and facilitation skills, minimum of three years experience

  • Excellent written and spoken English and Swahili

  • Ability to quickly understand new concepts and translate them into accessible and interactive activities and materials

  • Experience in design thinking / human-centred design

  • Track record of creating apps and SMS-based programmes e.g. using RapidPro

2. Job title: Head of Communications

Job purpose: To communicate RLabs’ impact in Tanzania and internationally

Location: Iringa, with travel to Mbeya, Dar es Salaam and Tanga

Salary: 4.5m gross per month, depending on experience

Consultancy, leading to full-time position early 2022 when funding secured

​1. Lead the collection of impact stories from RLabs’ activities

  • Conduct interviews and write up case studies for use in reports, social media and websites

  • Train members of RLabs’ team to collect powerful stories

  • Work with an external photographer to capture photos and videos to powerfully communicate RLabs’ work

  • Guide the editing process for video materials to communicate key messages

2. Maintain RLabs Tanzania and RLabs UK Websites and RLabs social media channels

  • Create content and regularly update RLabs media channels (websites and social media channels) to communicate RLabs work

  • Monitor visits to RLabs channels and build engagement

3. Liaise with corporate and donor partners to create powerful materials to profile strategic partnerships, e.g. UNICEF and others


  • A growth mindset and passion for transforming lives

  • Excellent interviewer, writer and storyteller in English and Swahili

  • Graphic and website design (we currently use Wix for RLabs Tanzania and Squarespace for RLabs UK – if you are a quick learner experience of other software is fine)

  • Excellent experience of creating content for social media, and strategies to build follower engagement

  • Skills in creating compelling campaign messaging, to communicate RLabs’ core message

  • Excellent understanding of international audiences

  • Track record of successful web-based fundraising campaigns, if possible internationally

3. Job title: Head of Training and Strategic Partnerships

Location: Iringa, with travel to Mbeya, Dar es Salaam and Tanga

Salary: 4.5m gross per month, depending on experience

Member of Senior Management Team, reports to Director of Programmes

Job purpose: We already have fantastic training materials and models for Growth Mindset – used to help young people start businesses and for our development partners. We are looking for someone to continue the development and dissemination of RLabs’ Growth Mindset training model as follows:

1. Lead the development of Grow Leadership training materials

  • Lead the team of Grow content developers and facilitators to deliver high-quality training materials

  • Conduct regular field visits to inform development and improvement of existing and future materials 

  • Lead training for all RLabs staff and facilitators to develop their facilitation skills and deep understanding of growth mindset concepts

  • Liaise with the Grow Leadership Programme Manager to ensure deployment of facilitators for different programmes

2. Initiate partnerships to take RLabs’ growth mindset model in other media, for example, print, SMS, video and online

3. Develop partnerships with corporate partners (e.g. mobile phone networks) to expand the Grow Leadership programme, including project design and partnership management

4. Secure paying clients for RLabs’ training consultancy services and deliver a high quality of service, including:

  • Understand the client’s training needs, negotiating contract and terms of reference for the work

  • Work with the RLabs team to develop training materials, identify and prepare trainers 

  • Monitor quality of training provided, and collect evidence of impact to report to clients

  • Ensure that all work is invoiced and payment received


  • Excellent spoken and written Swahili and English

  • Excellent training and facilitation skills, minimum of eight years experience

  • A growth mindset and passion for transforming lives

  • Ability to quickly understand new concepts and translate them into accessible and interactive activities and materials

  • Ability to engage directly with, and develop materials for a wide range of audiences, from educated professionals to rural youth with low levels of education

  • Highly responsive to participants’ learning and experience, to continually adapt to their training needs and potential

  • Enjoyment of a wide range of working environments from poor/rural to corporate

  • Experience in managing corporate partnerships
